B Minor Waltz opens You Must Believe in Spring, the album Bill Evans recorded with Eddie Gomez and Eliot Zigmund at Capitol Studios in August 1977 and never saw released: it appeared in 1981, months after his death.
The subtitle For Ellaine remembers Ellaine Schultz, Evans' longtime partner, who died in 1973. The piece carries that weight lightly, a slow jazz waltz in his late manner, spare, songful and harmonically deep.
