This is where Misty began: Erroll Garner's own first recording of his most famous melody, cut on July 27, 1954 with Wyatt Ruther on bass and Fats Heard on drums. The story goes that the tune came to him on an airplane, and he kept it in his head until he could reach a piano.
Before the lyric, before the thousand cover versions, Misty was a piano ballad, and Garner plays it here with lush block chords and total confidence in the melody.
