Mirage is an Oscar Peterson original, and this performance comes from his solo concert at the Montreux Jazz Festival on July 17, 1975, captured for Norman Granz's Jazz at Montreux series.
Alone on stage, Peterson turns the piece into a display of everything two hands can do: torrents of notes at a tempo most pianists cannot think at, stride and swing compressed into two and a half relentless minutes.
