Sweet Peter is one of Morton's own tunes from the twenties, revisited as a solo during the 1938 Library of Congress sessions with Alan Lomax.
Where his old band arrangements were tightly drilled, the solo version relaxes: Morton lets the melody amble over a striding left hand, decorating it differently every chorus, a composer at ease inside his own material.
