For Solo Monk, recorded in 1964 and 1965, Monk opened with Dinah, the 1925 pop song, played as an affectionate send-up of twenties stride piano. This file is Take 1, the alternate performance issued on the album's expanded edition.
The joke is serious: under the vaudeville bounce sits Monk's whole rhythmic art, hesitations and displaced accents no stride pianist of 1925 would have dared.
